Submission Guidelines

Please read the following guidelines very carefully. Failure to adhere to the requirements may result in automatic rejection.

We love all kinds of horror, as long as it is honest, character-driven, and original. The author’s unique voice and an ability to elevate and explore horror at a literary level are of upmost importance.

We do not mind violence or sexuality, as long as it serves the purposes listed above.

We publish on a quarterly basis and will be open for submissions until all empty slots are filled.

We allow simultaneous submissions, but please notify us as soon as possible if your work has been accepted somewhere else. Multiple submissions are not allowed.

Instructions: Please submit your work of fiction, poetry or art to submissions@capitalhorror.com. Please include a cover letter in your email along with a very short bio. Attachments must be PDF and in Proper Manuscript Shunn format.

Response times: Response times can vary, but please do not inquire before 30 days after submission.

AI Generated Content Policy: We do not accept content that has been wither partially or fully written by Artificial Intelligence.

Confidentiality: All author personal information will not be shared outside of our editorial staff unless expressly granted otherwise.

Pay rate: We are currently unable to provide any remuneration for authors' work, but we hope that will change in the future.

Fiction/Poetry Submissions

We accept fiction/poetry submissions for the following:

Flash Fiction: Up to 1,000 words

Short Stories: 1,001 to 6,000 words

Poetry: No length requirement

We are seeking original, thought-provoking, character-driven horror at a literary level. We love writers who take risks with their writing and have a unique voice. We do not accept previously published works.

Nonfiction Submissions

We are open to submissions of nonfiction up to 5,000 words on any topic related to horror, including the business of writing and publishing in the genre. we do not accept previously published works.
